Nature Park Exhibition in the Basement of Quellalpin

“With All Our Might. Climate, Glaciers, Kaunertal”

To get you in the mood for a visit to the swimming pool or sauna on the roof – or as an informative experience in any weather: The permanent exhibition “With All Our Might. Climate, Glaciers, Kaunertal” in the basement of Quellalpin offers exciting insights into the topics of climate, glaciers, and change.

The focus is on the Gepatsch Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in the Eastern Alps – a symbol and witness of climate change.

"Even though the Gepatschferner is currently up to 200 meters thick, it shares the same fate as all other Alpine glaciers. Due to ongoing climate warming, it will also lose dramatic mass and eventually disappear entirely – according to scientific forecasts, worst-case in forty, at the latest in one hundred years."

Topics of the Exhibition

Global climate research as well as local climate initiatives approach the connections between climate and glaciers from different perspectives. Using the Gepatschferner as an example, the exhibition also tells stories about the emotional closeness of the Kaunertal residents to “their” glacier, from the landscape-shaping use of its water to the scientifically documented consequences of climate change.

Vividly designed by the exhibition architects Columbusnext and the curators around Petra Paolazzi, the different themes are made tangible in 4 exhibition rooms.

  • Climate change, climate protection, and the future of glaciers
  • The Kaunergrat climate change adaptation model region and its regional strategies
  • Scientific research around the Gepatschferner
  • The Kaunertal residents and their glacier (Eyewitnesses tell)
  • Hydropower from the Gepatsch reservoir
  • Glaciers in the focus of modern art
