Nature park exhibition on the basement floor of the Quellalpin

"WITH FULL FORCE. CLIMATE, GLACIER, KAUNERTAL”

Ideal for setting the mood for a visit to our close-to-nature pool or rooftop sauna, or for an informative afternoon in any weather: the "With Full Force. Climate, Glaciers, Kaunertal” permanent exhibition in the Quellalpin provides exciting insights into the topics of climate and glaciers, placing the focus on the local Gepatschferner glacier.

“Even though the Gepatschferner Glacier still has a thickness of up to 200 metres, it shares the same destiny as all other Alpine glaciers. Progressive climate warming will cause it to dramatically lose mass and eventually disappear altogether – at worst in forty years, at the latest in a hundred, according to scientific forecasts.”

Exhibition themes

Global climate research and local climate initiatives address the interrelationships between climate and glaciers from different perspectives. Taking the Gepatschferner glacier as an example, the exhibition also recounts stories about the emotional bond between the people of Kaunertal and “their” glacier, from the use of its water to shape the landscape through to the scientifically documented consequences of climate change.

The exhibition architects, Columbusnext, and the curators led by Petra Paolazzi have created a vivid spatial experience of the different themes in four exhibition spaces.

  • Climate change, climate protection and the future of glaciers
  • The Kaunergrat climate change adaptation model region and its regional strategies
  • Scientific research concerning the Gepatschferner Glacier
  • The people of Kaunertal and their glacier (contemporary witnesses tell their stories)
  • Water power from the Gepatsch reservoir
  • Glaciers in the focus of modern art
